William Lou: Tianjin, Basketball, Toronto Raptors, an interview by Haig Balian
My family came to Canada in the 70s from Lebanon, and I was the first in my immediate family to be born in Canada. Ice hockey always felt like it was a Canadian thing I was on the fringes of: it may have been culturally dominant, but to me it was culturally irrelevant. I think that’s true of many people from immigrant communities.
I got to talk about this and other topics with William Lou. He covers the world of the Toronto Raptors and the National Basketball Association for Yahoo Sports Canada. Will was born in Tianjin, and we talk about his place in the media ecosystem and basketball as a cultural choice.
