Macondo, Post-rock the electro way

Macondo, first of all, where does that name come from? What does it mean?

The name comes from a fictional city in Colombia from the book A Hundred Years of Solitude. Our original bass player Sebastian, who is from Colombia, suggested the name with his enticing Spanish accent and the name stuck.

What do you think of the Beijing Underground music scene?

Even though we are all still relatively new to the scene, we love how vibrant and big it is. What is even better is how people from all over the world come together to play music together. Never in all of the cities we have lived in have we had such opportunity to hear and work with a diverse talent pool. There is a show usually every night of the week where you can see anything from jazz to folk to rock to metal to punk to electroacoustic soul pop inspired liquid improv. Yeah, that.

What’s your favorite music to listen to?

Hard to say what my favorite music is. Depends on the day and my mood but really anything that either gets you moving, grooving, feeling, thinking, drinking, flying or crying, I’ll listen to. Or the Beatles.

How long have you been doing music ? What was your first instrument and why did you start a rock band to begin with ?

I have been playing music since I was 12 when my dad bought my first bass guitar. My brothers played music as well so there were always guitars and drums ready to play so I just picked them up as I grew up. I started a rock band because fuck, who doesn’t wanna play in a rock band?
